Who We Are
Run of the Mill Productions is a team of people with diverse backgrounds with the common interest of making Bible-based inspirational films. A ministry of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio, we were formed in 2007 as a way to participate in the 168 Film Project - a worldwide competition in speed filmmaking founded by John Ware, a son of our congregation.
What We Do
Each February we participate in the 168 Film Project speed filmmaking competition. Based on a theme picked by the organizers in California, teams from all over the world are given a Bible verse that relates to the theme. We have about a week to do preproduction - write a script, cast the characters, choose locations, assemble equipment and staff. Then on an assigned date at an exact hour, filming begins, and the project is due in the California office exactly 168 hours (or one week) later, meaning we have one week to shoot, edit and deliver a short inspirational film.
Also when the need for a creative film project arises at UALC, we can bring members of the team together to produce films for ministry use, as we did for the 2009 National Day of Prayer prayer breakfast keynote.
How we do it
Run of the Mill Productions is a donor-supported ministry, launched by the Visual Arts Ministry of UALC. We receive no funds from the UALC church budget, but all donations made to the UALC 168 Project Fund are set aside for this purpose. Making films is not an inexpensive enterprise, but with volunteered labor, donated equipment, sets and material, generous cash donations, and abundant prayer support, we make powerful films with limited budgets. Please explore our Web site to see the many ways you can participate.
